mail carrier

IPA guide

Other forms: mail carriers

The post office employee who delivers letters, bills, and pizza coupons to your house is a mail carrier. Some mail carriers drive special trucks, while others do their job on foot.

Once upon a time, most people referred to mail carriers as "mailmen." This seems pretty silly today, since people of any gender can (and do) deliver the mail. No matter who delivers the mail, the informal motto of mail carriers is this: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
